The Ministry of the Public Service was formerly known as Cabinet Personnel under the office of the Prime Minister. It was responsible for the management of personnel in the Civil Service. It was granted Ministerial status in the 1985/86 financial year as the executive arm of the Minister responsible for the
administration of the personnel functions in the Public Service. It was granted full Ministerial autonomy in 1999/2000. In 2007, it became a full fledged Ministry when it was assigned a Minister.
